3 Steps to a Winning Marketing Strategy for Insurance Agents

Read Time: 2 minutes

Growing your insurance agency doesn't have to be difficult. While there isn't a silver bullet or an overnight marketing tactic that can immediately double your business, there are tried and true strategies that our team has tested across 300+ insurance agencies over the last 10 years.

So, after advising over 300 insurance agency owners, what's our golden rule of marketing?

A DIVERSE MARKETING STRATEGY WINS

What does that mean for you? The specific tactics we recommend for your insurance agency vary depending on a number of factors. However, there's certainly a method to the madness in how we approach marketing strategy. You should not put all of your eggs in one basket. To be successful, your marketing strategy needs to strike the right balance between reach (how many people see your ad) and frequency (how many times each person sees your ad).

In order to find that balance, we recommend utilizing various tactics in at least two of the three steps outlined below. Ideally, these steps are taken sequentially, but achieving two of the three steps is a great start while still leaving room for improvement. We ALWAYS recommend starting with the tactics in Step #1 Laying a Free Foundation first.

1) Lay a

Free Foundation

This should always be the foundation of an inbound marketing strategy (people finding your business by actively searching for your services). These tactics are especially important because people who are actively searching for a company that offers services like yours are already pre-qualified and are further along in their purchasing process/conversion funnel.

2) Local Community Engagement

Business Cards, Car Wraps, Yard Signs, Storefront Signage, Sports Sponsorships, Event Marketing, and Philanthropic Giving

Your outbound marketing strategy (finding customers who might need your services now or in the future) says game on. Unlike most tactics in Step #1, Local Community Engagement isn't free, but the investment will reap rewards in the medium to long term, as long as you continue to diversify your marketing efforts. Becoming a local figure isn't necessary, but the more you're willing to hustle the more visibility and connections you'll establish, which drives higher awareness for your brand.

3) Diversify your Marketing Mix & Spend Money to Make Money

Paid Search, Paid Social Media, Online Display Ads, Direct Mail, Billboards, Online Video, TV, Radio, and Digital Audio

Once you have a solid foundation and have engaged with your local community, it's time to expand your marketing reach. This step involves investing in paid advertising through various channels to increase your brand's visibility and attract a wider audience. Paid social media, online display ads, direct mail, billboards, and online video are effective ways to reach potential customers beyond your immediate community.

By following these three steps and continuously refining your marketing approach, you can create a successful marketing strategy that maximizes your reach and drives growth for your insurance agency. Remember, diversification is key, so be open to experimenting with different tactics and adapting to the evolving needs of your business and target audience.
